The Colossus of Cancer Care in India will be remembered for her outstanding contribution to cancer care in India

“It was destiny that took me to the cancer institute. Ever since there has been no looking back and I have been part and parcel of the Institute, in all its tribulations, vicissitudes, share its fears, hopes, successes, and failures” said Dr. V. Shanta in an interview.

The recipient of Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, and Padma Vibhushan left behind a legacy as the country lost a crusader who revolutionized cancer on 19th January 2021, and the world lost a champion of humanity.

A recently published World Cancer Report by W.H.O. said “one in 10 Indian will develop cancer during lifetime, and one in 15 Indians will die of cancer”. These are hard times and today we need more good souls like Dr. V. Shanta who devoted her lifetime to her patients.

A strong woman, full of wisdom and compassion mustered well over nine decades, she said “When the sick approach the gates of the institute, weak in body and spirit and full of fear, there is only one response, you have to become a part of them”.

It was her BHAAV, her intent  towards her patients and the humanity that made her stand out among all at times when treating cancer was a far fetched dream. We here are fully committed to eradicate cancer following the path Dr. V. Shanta showed us as now it’s upto you & us to draw inspiration from great souls like her & fight cancer to save humanity.
